MHS GENESIS is Here!

On March 25, 2023 the Department of Defense's new electronic health record (EHR), MHS GENESIS, launched here at Kimbrough. MHS GENESIS has replaced TRICARE Online at this facility.

What is MHS GENESIS?

When fully deployed, MHS GENESIS will be the single health record for service members, veterans, and their families. Visit our MHS GENESIS Resources page to  >>Learn More about MHS GENESIS.

Frequently Asked Questions

How will MHS GENESIS improve my health experience?
MHS GENESIS will aid faster and better management of chronic, complex, and time-sensitive health issues. Referrals, treatment plans and care coordination between military, the VA and community providers will be faster and better.
Will MHS GENESIS replace TRICARE Online Patient Portal (TOL) and Secure Email Messaging?
Yes. Starting March 25, you’ll use the MHS Genesis Patient Portal (https://my.mhsgenesis.health.mil) as your patient portal and for secure email messaging..  You’ll no longer use TRICARE Online Patient Portal.
Can I schedule an appointment using the MHS GENESIS Patient Portal?

Yes. The capability to request an appointment through the MHS GENESIS Patient Portal is currently enabled.

Can I request refills of my medications through the MHS GENESIS Patient Portal?

Yes. You can request refills via the MHS GENESIS Patient Portal for most prescriptions from your military pharmacy! This applies to your existing medications that have remaining refills. If your prescription has no refills left, or it's expired, you'll need to contact your provider for a renewal. Depending on the medication, you may have to see your provider for a consult prior to renewal.

To access the new MHS GENESIS Patient Portal, you'll need to:
•   Verify your information in DEERS
•   Create a DS Logon Account by visiting https://myaccess.dmdc.osd.mil/
The MHS GENESIS Patient Portal can also be accessed by visiting: https://my.mhsgenesis.health.mil.  For questions with DS Logon visit: https://milconnect.dmdc.osd.mil/milconnect/ or  call 800-368-3665.
What will happen to my old medical records?
Existing electronic health records will continue to be available to providers once Kimbrough starts using MHS GENESIS. Your electronic (AHLTA) chart will be visible in a legacy viewer application, so there is no need to request physical copies in advance of the transition. Additionally, any inactive paper charts sent to for digital upload will also be viewable in legacy applications connected to MHS GENESIS.
What should I do with my paper medical records?
There is no need to request new copies in advance of the transition. If you already have personal paper copies, we do recommend keeping those. If feasible, you may want to scan and back up on an external hard drive. If you do choose to digitize your personal copies, please ensure you have proper digital storage safeguards to protect your personal health information.
What is the DS Logon?
DS Logon is a secure, self-service, single sign-on capability that provides validation of a user's identity for DoD and Department of Veterans Affairs partner websites.  DS Logon accounts require your identity to be authenticated (you are who you say you are) prior to visiting DoD and VA partner web sites. Authentication can occur by using your CAC or through in-person or online remote proofing.
Who can get a DS Logon account?
  • DS Logon accounts are available to:
  • Service members (active duty, Guard/Reservists)
  • Veterans and Retirees
  • Spouses, including former spouses who are beneficiaries
  • Eligible family members (age 18 +)
  • DoD Civilians and Contractors
You must be enrolled in Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS) to get a DS Logon Account.
Why have a DS Logon Account?
DS Logon is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, except during scheduled maintenance. The DS Logon account provides the DoD and VA with a high level of confidence that you are who you say you are and allows you to access all the partner web sites with a single username/password from any internet-connected device without the need of a CAC reader.
Don't forget to keep your family's information up-to-date in DEERS.
