Urgent Care

Urgent Care services treat non-life-threatening health issues that require immediate attention, such as sprains, the flu, colds, and other common illnesses.

Emergency Care

If you are experiencing a life-threatening medical situation (including mental health emergencies), call 911 immediately.

Emergency care services treat life-threatening medical issues such as threats to your life, limbs, sight, or safety.

Call or visit your nearest Urgent Care facility if you have a non-life-threatening health issue. If you have a life-threatening health issue, call 911 immediately.

What is urgent care vs. emergency care?
Urgent care is medically necessary care that you need for a sudden illness or injury that isn’t life threatening. It does require immediate attention from a medical professional to avoid complications, like infection.

Emergency care, on the other hand, is care you need to treat a serious medical condition immediately. This includes a mental health emergency. An emergency is a threat to either:
• Life
• Sight
• Limb
• Safety

Mental Health Emergencies

During normal duty hours (7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.) contact the Behavioral Health Clinic immediately at 301-677-8895. After normal duty hours, weekends and holidays go immediately to the nearest Emergency Room or call 911.

Kimbrough Ambulatory Care Center does NOT have an Emergency Room.

Important

Beneficiaries enrolled in TRICARE Prime and assigned to Kimbrough Ambulatory Care Center should contact the appointment call center at 1-866-511-8748 or 301-677-8606 to schedule a follow up visit with their assigned Primary Care Manager within 24 hours or the next business day to coordinate follow up care.

Additional Information

Beneficiaries using TRICARE Standard and TRICARE for Life do not require prior authorization during an emergency, applicable annual deductibles and cost shares apply.

Beneficiaries enrolled in TRICARE Prime through the U.S. Family Health Plan must contact their Primary Care Provider or the U.S. Family Health Plan for information on how to obtain follow up care after an emergency.
